Inspection carried out on 11 February 2014

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with two dentists, two dental nurses, a hygienist and two members of staff. We inspected three surgeries and a decontamination room. We also looked at care records for ten patients and spoke with four patients.

We saw that patient’s views were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered. For example one patient told us “I get excellent service from all the staff.” Another patient said “I am fully involved in deciding what treatment I have.”

Patient's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plans in accordance with General Dental Council (GDC) guidance. This meant that patients received individualised oral care and treatment that they had agreed to.

We saw that the premises were clean and tidy. Staff we talked to spoke knowledgeably about the decontamination and sterilisation processes they used. All the patients we spoke with told us that the practice was always clean. One patient we spoke with said “It’s a very clean environment.”

We saw documentation which confirmed that all relevant staff employed by the service held current registrations with the GDC. We also saw documents which confirmed that the service held checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for all staff. This meant that the service had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.
