During a routine inspection
People were well informed about their treatment options. One person said 'the dentist is very good at explaining options'. The practice took steps to ensure different people's needs were met such as having a portable hearing loop and allowing people who could not use the stairs to access the clinic from a first floor entrance.
Everyone we spoke with said they were happy with care provided at the clinic. One person described the service as "absolutely excellent". We were told the practice provided conscious sedation when needed. All staff involved in this procedure were appropriately trained and skilled to provide this service. Patients who needed to be referred elsewhere were involved in their treatment options.
Staff were familiar with the clinic policies on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. The practice had a designated lead in this area and staff had been trained to respond appropriately if they suspected abuse.
We saw evidence to indicate appropriate recruitment checks were undertaken before staff began work.
The practice had an effective complaints system in place to ensure learning was implemented.
