All Inspections

20 August 2014

During a routine inspection

We spoke with the dentist, two of the three staff working at the practice and five patients. All the patients we spoke with told us they were highly satisfied with the care and treatment they received. One patient said "it's friendly and relaxed. There are no difficulties getting an appointment. You get a chance to build a relationship with the dentist." Another patient told us "it's excellent treatment. They see me at a drop of the hat. Most caring."

Patients told us they were involved in their treatment decisions and their permission to treatment was sought. Staff understood their legal responsibilities and obligations for enabling patient consent.

Patients were satisfied with the cleanliness of the practice. We found the provider had systems to promote cleanliness and reduce infection.

Staff said they were well supported and enjoyed working at the practice. We saw from training records all staff attended essential training such as basic life support and managing emergencies. Staff had maintained their continuing professional development activities to meet the requirements of the General Dental Council.

The provider had a complaints system in place. There had been one complaint in 2014 which had been managed in line with the provider's policy.

5 January 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with patients who told us that they were 'very happy with the treatment, the staff are excellent' and 'the dentist clearly explains all treatment options'. We saw treatment plans were detailed and included different options where these were appropriate and enabling patients to make an informed choice

the people we spoke with during the visit told us the practice was very flexible with appointments.

We found that that there was no hand washing sink in the decontamination room. We discussed this with Dr Redfern who told us that he would install one as soon as possible.

We found that some equipment that was for single use was being used on more than one occasion, albeit for the same patient. Dr Redfern told us that he would stop doing this with immediate effect.
