During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit to Oxford Orthodontic Centre we met with Dr. Breckon (the provider) and the practice manager. We spoke with six young patients and three of their relatives. We also spoke with two members of staff.

All of the patients we spoke with were very happy with the orthodontic treatment they received. One patient told us us 'they are very clear what to expect and what will happen next time.' Patients told us they were offered choice in the way they received treatment. A patient said "I didn't get on with the braces so I have come today to talk about an alternative". Another patient told us 'I like it that they discuss things with me and not just my mum.'

Patients we spoke with told us the practice was always clean and tidy. The practice operated processes, and followed procedures, that minimised the risk and spread of infection because current guidelines were followed.

Staff told us they were supported to carry out their roles. A member of staff we spoke with said "they listen to what you say' and 'I feel supported'. We saw that staff received training specific to their job.

The practice had systems in place to seek and act on patient feedback and carried out audits to monitor clinical quality. The practice undertook quality assurance audits that were open to external scrutiny and validation. They were members of the British Dental Association good practice scheme.
