All Inspections

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spent time in the communal areas of the home so that we could see what life was like there. Staff interactions were supportive and respectful. Staff assisted people sensitively, whilst at the same time promoting people's independence as much as possible.

We spoke with four relatives. All were complimentary about the care and support their relative received. One relative described the care as 'superb'. Another relative told us, 'Staff are very caring, very responsive and any concerns are acted upon'.

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual needs. Where people did not have the capacity to consent to care and treatment, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements. Relatives we spoke with told us that they felt involved in the care planning process and told us they were kept informed of any changes in their relative's needs.

People were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink, which were freshly prepared in the home. People were sensitively supported to eat their meals.

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. There was a system in place for assessing and monitoring the quality of the service. This ensured people received a service which was of high quality and met their needs.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spent time in the communal areas of the home so that we could see what life was like there. We saw that staff were respectful and kind in the way they dealt with people.

We spoke with four visitors. They were positive about the care at the home and felt involved. One person told us that they had no concerns about their relative's care. They said the person, 'Could not be better placed anywhere'. Another person told us that their relative had begun to be, 'More like their old fun loving self' and that that they were pleased with the care.

The care records contained detailed information about people's care needs and showed that the staff arranged the health care people needed. Medicines were safely stored and the records were well maintained. We saw some examples of people receiving the care they needed but found that some of this care was not mentioned in their care plans.

We saw that although staff were busy that people did not have to wait long for assistance. One visitor told us that it sometimes took a while for staff to be free to assist their relative and another mentioned that all the staff were kind but some communicated better than others. We saw that staff were working together well and spent time with people as well as supporting them with their care needs.

There was information for people about how to make a complaint. A visitor told us they would have no fears about raising anything they weren't happy with.
