During a routine inspection

Kingswood provides support for one person who has lived there for the past 23 years.

The person who lives there told us "I am really happy here, I have my own room and I am encouraged and supported to be as independent as possible".

We saw the care plan that was in place that showed us that the individual care was personalised in order to meet the person's needs.

We saw that independence was encouraged through life skills support, including cooking, shopping and self-administering medication.

We saw that the home was warm, clean and comfortable.

The person supported showed us around their home and told us "I decide what I do and hen I do it". We found the person's care plan was written with the involvement of the person supported. The person told us they were "learning to look after myself". We observed the person being supported and saw the provider was promoting independence.

We found in the person's care plan that their needs had been assessed and plans written to meet their needs. The provider and person supported told us how risks were assessed and managed both within and outside of the home.

The provider had up to date policies and procedures on safeguarding in place and knew how to respond if abuse was suspected, witnessed or alleged. The person told us "I come and go as I please and do what I want to do".

The provider was the sole live in carer for the person. However, the provider had arrangements in place to provide support if needed. We found the provider had the qualifications, skills and experience to meet the person's needs. The person told us the provider "knows me well and has looked after me for years".

We found the provider and person supported worked together to plan how the service was provided and regularly assessed the quality of service making changes as a result.

Kingswood is a home for one adult who may need additional support for conditions such as a learning disability or for their emotional development.

The person who uses the service told us that they felt safe at the home and that the manager is "really nice". We were told that the food was 'good' and that there was plenty to eat at times that suited them. There was assistance for them to maintain their personal hygiene and their privacy and dignity was respected. The person said that their room was warm and comfortable.
