During a routine inspection

At the time of our last inspection, we found that the provider had not been compliant with regulations regarding safety and suitability of premises, supporting workers and quality monitoring. The findings of this inspection identified that improvements had been made in these areas.

There were four people living at the home at the time of our visit. We spoke with all of these people, the staff that were supporting them and a relative. We received positive comments in support of the service provided.

People told us that they were happy with how their care and support needs were being met and that staff were available at the times they needed them. A person using the service told us 'Staff help me get to the doctors if I am not well.'

People told us that staff supported them in a respectful manner and offered them choices of how and where they wanted to spend their time. A person using the service told us 'The best thing about living here is that it is friendly.'

People told us that they had opportunities to take part in recreational activities and were encouraged to be as independent as possible. A person using the service told us 'I go out shopping with staff every week. I enjoy doing that.'

People told us that they were involved in menu planning and meal preparation and that they were satisfied about the choice and quality of meals.

People told us that they felt safe living at the home and that they would speak to the manager or staff if they had any concerns. A person using the service told us 'I would talk to anyone from here if I had any complaints, but nothing is troubling me.'

Systems were in place to monitor the quality of service provided at the home. People using the service and their relatives were involved in this.

During our inspection, we asked local authority staff involved in monitoring the home about the quality of service provided. We had not received any information from them at the time of writing this report.

During a routine inspection

There were four people living at the home at the time of our visit. During our visit we spoke with people at the home and they told us that they were happy with how their care needs were being met. A relative of a person living at the home told us 'Since living at the home my son has really improved. The staff really care for him and his health has improved.' Another person said 'Whenever we collect our son to spend the day with us, he always looks spotlessly clean.'

People told us that they could choose how they wanted to spend their time. A person that was living at the home told us 'I love the garden, I enjoy playing football in there and I enjoy looking after the vegetable patch with my friends.'

People told us that they were encouraged to do things for themselves so that they could be more independent. A person that was living at the home told us 'I go out with the staff to the shops to buy food.'

People told us that they had the opportunity to view the home prior to moving in, in order to sample what it was like to live there. The relative of one person that was living at the home told us 'We all went to have a look around the home and then my son stayed and had lunch with the other people that lived there.'

People told us that staff were available at the times that they needed them and that staff supported them in an understanding manner. A relative of a person that was living at the home told us 'The staff have been brilliant with my son, they know exactly how to support him.'

There were no visitors at the home during our visit. Therefore, following our visit, we had telephone conversations with two relatives of people who were living at the home. This was in order to obtain their views about the service being provided. They both told us that they were happy with the care being provided.

As part of our inspection, we contacted local authority colleagues involved in monitoring the home. This was to discuss the quality of the service provided at the home. However, we had not received a response from them at the time of writing this report.
