During a routine inspection

Prior to our inspection we reviewed all the information we had received from the provider. During the visit we spoke with 14 people who used the service and two relatives and asked them for their views. We also spoke with six care workers, three care team leaders and the registered manager. We looked at some of the records held in the service including the care files for six people.

We found people gave consent to their care and received care and support that met their needs. A person told us, 'I had an assessment five weeks ago, they told me what they were going to do, I also knew what needed doing." Another person said, 'If I see them watching me I'm aware they are observing I can manage, they will help if I ask."

We found people who used the service were kept safe and protected from harm. Staff knew how to respond to any allegation of abuse. We asked a person if they felt safe using the service and they replied, "My husband is usually here, but I feel quite safe even when he's not." A relative said, "I feel mum is safe in their care, they are totally reassuring."

We found the staff team were supported through training and the provider assessed and monitored the quality of the service. A person told us, 'I find them quite professional." Another person said, "I'm delighted with the standard of care."

During a routine inspection

We spoke to two people who use the service and one family member of an individual who uses the service. They told us that they are happy with, feel safe with and value the service. The people who use the service told us that the support provided helped them to recover their independence. One individual said that the service was 'absolutely brilliant'. They told us about the enabling practical support they received to regain mobility which had been impaired by illness.

People who use the service told us that they feel respected and involved in planning their own care. The son of an individual who uses the service told us that staff are 'very respectful to mum.' He emphasised the fact that staff talk to his mother about her needs and wishes. One person who receives a personal care service told us that the staff are 'wonderful people.' This individual told us that they 'feel safe as houses' with staff.

We saw evidence of effective care planning and service delivery. We found that provider staff were generally well supported and trained to deliver safe and effective care.
