During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our previous inspection of Complimentary Care, which we carried out on 11 December 2013, we found that although people who used the service were happy with the support they received to develop and maintain their independence; we identified that action needed to be taken by the provider to ensure that all staff that worked for the supported living service received managing challenging behaviour training.

We visited the supported living project Waddon House as part of our follow up review and spoke with one person who used the service. They told us they were happy living at Waddon House and felt the staff who worked there always treated them with respect and kindness. We also spoke to a member of staff during our visit and looked at staff training records.

We found that the provider had taken appropriate action to address the staff training issue which we had identified at our previous inspection. People who used the service were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

11 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with both the people who currently lived at Waddon House. They told us staff that worked there were all 'very nice' and they both felt they were given all the support they needed to maintain and develop their independent living skills. One person told us 'you can do whatever you want to do here. Go out, stay in...It's up to you.' Another person said 'it's warm; the food is great and the staff are nice. What more could you want. There's nothing I would change here.'

During our inspection we saw people received safe and appropriate support from experienced staff that treated people with respect and dignity. We also saw staff supported people to be as independent as they could, and encouraged them to make informed choices about the care and support they received. We found the provider had appropriate systems in place to routinely assess and monitor the quality of the care and support people received.

Although people receiving supported living services at Waddon House told us they were happy there and we saw they were adequately supported by staff; we found they and others including staff and visitors may be put at risk because staff had not received training in some key aspects of their role. For example, no staff had received any training in how to manage behaviours that might challenge the service.
