All Inspections

9 April 2013

During a routine inspection

There were 22 people living at Tudor House at the time of our visit.

We spoke with three people. They told us that they were happy with the support that they received and that it was a good place. One said, 'It's lovely'. In the minutes of the recent residents' meeting we read, 'The girls are all very kind, they look after us very well'.

We spoke with two relatives and a friend of one person who was visiting. One relative told us that their mother was very content at the home. The friend said, 'You can't beat this place'. We read a number of positive comments from relatives in the responses to a recent survey. For example, 'The staff go to great lengths to ensure my mother is secure and happy'. Another read, 'I don't worry about Mum; I know she is looked after'.

We spoke with two members of staff, the manager and the provider. One member of staff told us, 'We have a good team'. Another said, 'If we have some problems we can talk with the managers'.

We noted that the provider had taken action to meet the three compliance actions that we set at our inspection in January 2013. We saw that a lot of work had been undertaken and that the service was now meeting standards.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to three people in residence at Tudor House. They told us that they enjoyed living there. One person told us that they received, 'Every encouragement' and that, 'They have people in to entertain, there's definitely a good variety'. Another person told us that, 'They make you feel secure'.

We spoke to two relatives and a friend. One said, 'I always recommend this place, the manager is very friendly, the staff are very good'. Another said, 'I can't get over how good they are, I come in sometimes when they're not expecting me, they're always so good'.

There was an 'open house' and 'pets welcome' policy in place at Tudor House. We saw that visitors were encouraged and that there was space for people to receive them in private. We found that there were a variety of activities on offer throughout the year and that staff were available to meet individual requests, such as a trip out to the shops. Staff were observed to have a good relationship with the people living there.

Despite the positive comments, we found that appropriate steps had not always been taken to ensure that people were protected against the risk of unsafe care. We also found that accurate records were not being maintained and that the manager did not have a formal quality assurance process in place.
