All Inspections

20 November 2013

During a routine inspection

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements. Staff gave good explanations of implied and explicit consent and were able to describe which behaviours would suggest agreement or not with a particular care task.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.

One person said; "It's very nice here. I go and get my hair done each week, the girls take me in the car."

People were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration.

Another person said; "The food is lovely, I had steak and chips last night."

People were also protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines. In addition, people who use the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises.

4 December 2012

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with five people who used the service and one relative. We also spoke with the provider, the manager and a senior care assistant. People told us what it was like to live at this home and described how they were treated by staff and their involvement in making choices about their care. People expressed satisfaction with the care and service that they received. One person said, "The staff are very good especially the manager. They know just what I need and like. What I ask for I get." Another person said, "I'm happy, well fed and well looked after. I come and go as I want. Everyone is lovely."

We were able to observe the experiences of people who used the service. We saw that staff treated people with dignity and respect. Staff were attentive and interacted well with people. We saw that staff communicated well with people and explanations of care were given in a way that could be easily understood. When people asked staff for assistance this was done kindly and discreetly. Staff encouraged and supported people to mobilise independently.

We found that people were safeguarded against the risk of abuse.

We found that appropriate recruitment procedures were in place.

We found that systems were in place to deal with comments and complaints.

We saw that people had their needs assessed and that care plans were in place.
