During a routine inspection

During our visit to Carewatch (Eastbourne & Hastings) we spoke with people who used the service, staff members and a relative. The people we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received. One person told us 'I couldn't ask for better care, they do everything to help me.' A relative told us 'I chose the company to provide the care. They are really conscientious and professional.'

Our visit was facilitated by the registered manager. We looked at supporting care documentation and staff documentation. We saw that people's care needs had been assessed and that care had been planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We observed care being delivered by workers who understood the care needs of people requiring support in their own homes. We saw that workers had received the training required for them to carry out the duties of their role.

We spoke with four people who used the service individually and one relative. We spoke with six members of staff including the training manager, the coordinator and four care workers.

During a routine inspection

We looked at supporting care documentation and staff documentation; we spoke with the registered manager who is referred to as manager in the report, the training manager, the coordinator, a field supervisor, three care workers, and four people who used the service.

This told us that before people had received any care or treatment they had been asked for their consent and the agency's staff had acted in accordance with their wishes. People or their representatives had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People's care needs had been assessed and reviewed, and care and treatment had been planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

People's care had been provided by care workers who understood their care needs and who had been provided with training and support. Comments received included, 'I can't fault them,' 'They are lovely,' 'I am lucky and grateful; I don't know what I would do without them.' 'They have all been very good,' 'They are the best carers I have had,' 'Great 100%,' and 'They are excellent.'

Robust recruitment practices had been followed. Appropriate identity and security checks had been completed as part of the recruitment process.

The records needed for the management of the agency had been maintained and were accurate and complete.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service had completed survey forms sent out by the provider in December 2011, and those that responded told us that 99.1% of people were satisfied with the service that they received.

We spoke to one person receiving a service and three relatives who were involved in their relatives care, who all told us that they were happy with the care provided and had been involved in the drawing up of their or their relatives care plan and ongoing reviews of the care provided.
