All Inspections

5, 6 March 2014

During a routine inspection

Our inspection of Life Line Screening included a visit to the office on 5th March 2014 and at a mobile screening clinic on 6th March 2014. During our visit we spoke with six people who use the service and nine staff members including the director of operations who was the registered manager and the clinical manager.

People were given detailed information prior to their screening and an assessment was undertaken to ensure they were having appropriate tests. We saw that people's privacy and dignity were respected during the screening process and that the clinic was managed in a way that promoted people's safety and wellbeing. People we spoke with told us they were generally happy with the service. One person told us "It's my third time here. It's a good service. Staff are discreet and friendly." Another person told us "I can't fault them. It's a good service and staff are very kind and professional."

We observed staff following guidance in terms of infection control and people we spoke with told us the service was very clean and efficiently managed. We saw that equipment was well maintained and the accuracy of test results was maintained through a process quality testing.

We saw that staff were employed in line with appropriate recruitment and selection processes and that appropriate employment checks were carried out prior to workers commencing in post. Staff we spoke with told us they were satisfied with the quality of service they were able to provide.

14 February 2013

During a routine inspection

We inspected the service at a visit to the premises on 12th November 2012 and at a mobile screening clinic held on 14th February 2013 in Bognor Regis, West Sussex. We were advised that 28 people had booked to attend the clinic.

We talked to three people who were attending the screening, and their comments included 'It's a valuable screening service. They seem to have the latest equipment' and 'I felt I had the risks and benefits explained to me'.

People felt that confidentiality and dignity were ensured at the screening, and that they had been provided with all the information they had needed to make a decision of which tests they wished to take. Arrangements in place ensured that people had not taken unnecessary tests. Records showed that concerns and complaints had been investigated and resolved where possible.

We found that the provider had ensured that staff had received sufficient support and training to carry out their duties.

22 June 2011

During an inspection in response to concerns

People felt that they had access to the information they needed to make choices, and most people said they had the opportunity to ask questions. Not everyone felt that the risks and benefits of screening had been explained. One person told us that they had been given a scan for a condition which they were already receiving treatment for. People told us they were asked to give feedback, but they had not been given information on how to make a complaint.

Everyone we spoke to said they felt that their privacy and dignity had been respected during the screening visit. All of the people we spoke to at the screening told us that they were happy with the care they had received from Life Line Screening. Some people told us that the medical history form was not clear, and several people said they didn't know if they would receive the results of the screening tests on the day or afterwards. However everyone we spoke to understood that they were responsible for sharing the results with their GP themselves.
