During a routine inspection

Members of the public raised concerns with us that staff had started work without them having the appropriate checks carried out to ensure they were fit to work with vulnerable adults. We found that staff had started work without the appropriate checks being carried out.

Prior to our inspection, members of the public told us that in some cases staff had not arrived to provide the help expected of them. The provider had established a system to check that staff arrived to carry out the work that they were expected to do. The feedback received from people who used the service stated that staff usually arrived on time.

The provider had a system in place to assess the quality of the work it carried out but this system was not applied consistently. The records used by the provider required further work to ensure that people were safe and that risks were eliminated where possible.

During a routine inspection

All the people we spoke with were positive about the quality of service provided by Dorset Blue Care Ltd. We found that peoples' needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. We saw that people received care from well trained staff who were supported and supervised in their role.

People, carers and relatives we spoke with told us that the staff were aware of their privacy and dignity requirements and that they were involved in the decision making practices regarding their care. One person said' I look forward to them coming, we chat and they are happy to help'.

People who used the service told us they felt safe in the agency's care and would be confident in raising a concern if necessary and that the provider would respond appropriately to any allegation of abuse.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service, although further development of audit practices is recommended.
