During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak to people who used the service about this outcome group.

The provider had not recruited any new staff since our last inspection. However we were given assurances that the recruitment procedure had been reviewed and a more robust procedure had been implemented to ensure people are cared for by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with eight people who lived at Ashgrove. We also spoke with two relatives, two staff and the providers. There were 10 people living at the service on the day of the inspection.

Everyone told us that it was a lovely place to live. One person said "You couldn't get better than here". People felt that staff looked after them very well. Staff were described as, "Kind and very helpful". People liked that there was a low turnover of staff so they got to know each other.

People who lived at the service and their relatives were very satisfied with the way that care was provided.

Care records and risk assessments contained basic information about people and their care needs.

Staff had not been recruited in a way that checked out their suitability before they started work.

The home was adequately maintained and health and safety was taken seriously to keep people safe.

There was a complaints system in place.

21 June 2011

During a routine inspection

We spoke to all of the people who live at Ashgrove and everyone told us what a lovely place it was to live.

One person said 'you cannot better this place.' Another person told us 'the staff are all very good and do a wonderful job, nothing is too much trouble.' 'We are looked after very well, the food is very nice. Our visitors are always made welcome.' 'Brian and Helen are always in the home, we chat everyday so there are never any problems because we chat so regularly.' 'We are like one big family.'

The Shropshire local Involvement Network (LINk) visited the home on 1 February 2011. LINk is made up of individuals, community groups and voluntary organisations with an interest in improving health and social services. They told us that people who live at the home were very happy with all aspects of the service.
