During a routine inspection

During this visit we spoke with two of the people who used the service, the scheme manager and two members of staff. People who use the service have their own tenancies and live independently within the extra care scheme. Those we spoke with confirmed that staff discussed their care with them and provided care and support in a way that they were happy with. They said they were supported by the same staff most of the time and that staff were able to meet their needs consistently. One person told us that their care notes 'are always updated'.

The people we spoke with confirmed that staff always wore gloves when they were giving personal care or handling tablet medicines. They told us that the staff had the right knowledge and skills to do the job. One person said: 'The staff care, it really makes a difference'. Another person told us staff: 'Know exactly what they're doing' and 'they are always there for you'. All of the staff we spoke with demonstrated a clear understanding of the care planning process and of individual's needs.

People knew about the complaints procedure and said they had not needed to use it and were confident that the service would respond appropriately to any issues they might raise. We saw that the provider took the comments and views of people using the service seriously.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us that staff respected their decisions and that they were supported and enabled to do things for themselves. People said they received the care and support that had been agreed between them and the service and that the staff responded well and were flexible around their changing needs. They told us that they usually had the same staff members providing their support and were pleased with the continuity this gave them. They said the service was good at communicating any changes to them. Each person had been given a written copy of their individual plan of care and support.

People we spoke with said that staff were competent and professional and that standards of care were good. They told us that the staff treated them well and understood their needs and preferences. They confirmed that the organisation regularly reviewed the service it provided to them and checked that they were satisfied with it. They said that there was always someone they could speak to if they had any concerns.
