During an inspection looking at part of the service

Since our last visit on 15 September 2012 several improvements have been made. The service was complaint with outcome 16 assessing and monitoring the quality of the service provision.

We observed that people who use this service were treated with respect and dignity. Staff knocked on people's bedroom doors before entering. When we arrived several people who live at the service were playing dominoes in the dining room. There were several staff and volunteers on hand to meet people's needs.

We spoke with one person who lived at the service and they told us that overall they were satisfied with living at the service and there were adequate staff working at the service. Some of the staff went over and above what was expected of them and ensured that the individual received traditional home made food. This person told us that they believed that they received all their prescribed medication and that they were always given a choice if they needed painkillers.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people at the service, three people living at the service and three relatives. People told us that care staff worked hard to support them. When we asked one person who lived at the service if their privacy and dignity was respected they told us that 'Yes always, the staff here are all very good to me and look after me very well all the time'.

Relatives confirmed that people were treated as individuals. When we asked about participation in care and treatment and decision making, two relatives told us that they were able to participate in care and support of their relative every day and were able to act in the best interests of their relative with regard to decision making.

One person living at Wade House was able to confirm they had a personal care plan and that they were involved in writing it.

We spoke with one person and asked if there were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to meet their needs and when they used their bells to call staff did they respond promptly. We were told yes. This person told us 'All the staff here are lovely, they look after me well'

We asked the same question of relatives and they too said there were sufficient numbers of staff employed and on duty at any given time to meet the needs of their relative.

One person told us that the staff listened and acted on what they said. The same person said that they would speak with a staff member if they were unhappy about the care and support they were provided with.

Relatives told us that they were regularly asked their views of the service provided to their relative.
