During a routine inspection
People's care plans contained a level of information that ensured their needs were being met. We spoke with four people who told us they were happy with the care and support they received. One person told us, 'I am quite content. I am very grateful for what they do for me.'
We observed that people were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment. There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The people we spoke with told us that they had no concerns with the cleanliness of the home.
We found people were supported by sufficient numbers of qualified, skilled and experienced staff which met people's needs. People who used the service we spoke with told us there were always enough staff to help them when they needed support.
The Provider or the Registered Manager had not monitored some important aspects of the service and checks were not always carried out. They had policies and procedures which identified systems what they should do to ensure effective and safe care is delivered but these were not always followed or updated.

'Very happy here, the staff are very helpful.'
'I can choose what time I go to bed and get up.'
'Staff do everything they can for us.'
People said they had been given enough information on the service before deciding to move in. One person said, 'It was the brochure and information that helped me and my family decide this is where I wanted to live.'
People told us they felt they were treated with respect. They said they could get up and go to bed when they wanted and if they did not like the meal they could choose something different. They said staff respected their privacy and treated them with thought and had respect for their dignity.
The provider told us a phased refurbishment of the existing home and the building of a new extension was about to start in October 2012. The provider told us that once completed all bedrooms will be single en-suite rooms; there will be 2 additional baths and 3 additional toilets downstairs, 1 additional bath and 1 additional toilet upstairs. The home will have a passenger lift and increase the accommodation from 15 to 23 people. The work will be carried out in phases, commencing with the extension, to minimise disruption to people who use the service.
