During a routine inspection

When we inspected CAN Plan B on 4 December 2012, they were providing a service to about 80 young people who required treatment and support related to drug and alcohol misuse.

During our inspection we spoke with three people who used the service, and another person's relative. Everyone spoke positively about their experiences and the support they received. They talked about being able to relax and 'open up' to the drug workers and counsellors, and about how they were encouraged and helped to set their own goals. One person said, "It's helped me out a lot, they've been really good and sorted me out. I set the goals I wanted and there's nothing I would change."

We could see from records people were treated as individuals each with unique needs. Each individual was allocated to the staff member who was most appropriately equipped to support them. The staff we spoke with were knowledgeable about the most effective treatments available for addictions, and were passionate about helping and protecting these young people. Staff were well supported and provided with training to ensure their knowledge and skills were kept up to date.

There were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. In addition to internal audits and service user questionnaires, they had recently introduced a link to a popular social networking site on the internet, which was proving to be an effective way of obtaining feedback from the young people.
