We visited the person living at 14 Belisana Road which they consider to be their family home. They have lived within this family unit since infancy and they told us they were very happy.

When we met the person they were happy to show us their bedroom, which was located on the second floor of the house. They had a large bedroom with a lounge area and a shower room which they shared with the other young person who they told us was their brother.

They told us they had enjoyed Christmas and showed us some of the presents they had received from their family. They also told us what they liked to do, this included; watching TV, particularly the soap opera's and going out shopping.

The family had a busy schedule each week included swimming, food shopping, day trips and regular holidays. The providers told us, "He gets to do what he wants to do, he decides what meals he is going to have and where he wants to spend his time."

Rather than a care plan being in place, which was not appropriate in this homely environment, the providers kept a daily diary of what happened each day. The diary contained information about what the person had for their meals, what activities they had done and information about any health appointments they had attended.

The environment in the home was happy and relaxed and we saw the provider offered warm, loving and appropriate support.

The service provided support for one person within a family environment. The person has lived with the people who they regard as their family since infancy and is also regarded by the people who own the home as one of their family members

When we undertook our visit to the home we spoke with the person. The person said they had lived there for a number of years and told us they had always been happy and really enjoyed living there.

They person told us that they led a fairly independent life style and enjoyed doing a range of activities which included; swimming, going into the local town and having regular holidays together with the manager and their family.

We also spent some time observing how the person was having their support needs met to help us gain an overall view of the experiences of person.

We observed that the home owners provided support in a sensitive, helpful and friendly way and that they treated the person with respect, whilst maintaining a positive and happy atmosphere throughout their home.
