During a routine inspection

We were not able to speak with people directly that had used the service but we found that the service had gathered its own feedback about the quality of the service. We found that people were pleased with the service they received from Ambutech, and did not identify any negative issues. We found that the service gained the essential information they needed to care for people they were transferring. Staff also transferred people with their medical notes and could look at these for information.

We found that the vehicles used by the service, an ambulance and two wheelchair accessible cars, were clean. We saw that cleaning schedules were in place to ensure the vehicles were clean and to minimise the risk of infection. Staff also undertook training updates in infection control to ensure their knowledge was up to date.

We found that the vehicles used by the service were adequately maintained.

Equipment used by the service was suitable to the work undertaken and was properly maintained.

The staff had the skills and qualifications necessary to provide care to people using the service.

The service had a complaints policy and procedure in place.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Due to the nature of the service we were unable to speak with people who had used the service. The service was also not providing any personal care. However the service had recently given out surveys to people who had used or were using the ambulance transport service. We found information showing that people were very satisfied with the service provided. Some specific comments included 'You have such wonderful and caring staff' and 'The staff are very good, its lovely to have such caring people'.

A comment from a person regularly commissioning the service for the transfer of patients for treatment between NHS hospitals was that she was very satisfied with the service.

7 November 2011

During a routine inspection

We did not speak with people using the service directly, we saw recent surveys completed by people using the patient transport service and the three surveys for the people who had used or were using the domiciliary care service. Comments made about the service included 'I can't fault them', 'Staff are always polite and civil' and 'I am happy with the service'.

We spoke with staff members, staff said that they knew the people who regularly used the service well, and understood their needs.
