During a routine inspection

We sent out 60 questionnaires to people. Each person was also sent an additional questionnaire to give to a relative, friend or advocate for completing. A total of 30 questionnaires were returned. 19 were received from people who used the service and 11 were received from relatives. In addition we spoke to five people who used the service and four staff members.

People told us they were involved in deciding what care they would receive and how it would be delivered.

We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plans. We found staff were knowledgeable about people's care requirements.

Records were available to show that the senior care workers monitored the administration records of medication. This meant that people's medicines were checked regularly to see that staff were administering, ordering and disposing of them properly.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

We spoke with seven people to find out their opinions of the care and support they received. People were complimentary about the service. Comments included, 'It's great, they help you' and 'You see the same faces.'

People told us they understood the choices available to them. They said they had helped to plan the care they received and felt they were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People said they were happy with the care they received. One person told us, "The care is great." We concluded that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs.

People told us they felt safe with the staff who came into their homes. One person said, 'I trust the staff who come, there's no question about that.' We considered that people were protected from the risk of abuse.

People said they thought that staff were 'professional' and told us, 'They know what they're doing.' We found that people were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely.

People told us they could talk to staff if they were worried about anything, or if they had any complaints. We found systems were in place to assess the quality of the service, and to identify and manage risks to people.
