During a routine inspection

We spoke with the majority of people living in the home either in the lounge or in their bedrooms. They told us that staff were kind and caring. One person said, "The staff are good, they don't take advantage of you, as they could." Another person said, "All the people here are friendly." We saw that people were treated with respect and staff were attentive. There was a good range of training provided to staff so that they had the skills and confidence to support the people living in the home. People were smiling and looked warm and well dressed. One person said, "It is always nice and warm here." Another person said, "The food is good, sometimes they give me too much, but I don't have to eat it all." People were given the opportunity to express their views to the staff and surveys were sent out regularly. The manager used this feedback in planning the development of the service.

We found the home needed redecorating and repairing in parts but the most important area that needed to be refurbished was the sluice and toilet area upstairs. The flooring was damaged and badly stained and the fixtures were in bad repair.

People said musicians and entertainers visited the home to provide entertainment and they were very good.

Visiting relatives said "the staff are really good, its welcoming", "my mum is really happy here."

Not all the people living in the home were able to tell us about their experiences so we observed the interactions between the people living in the home and the staff.

People experienced kind gentle support from the staff. Staff spoke respectfully and differently to each person depending on their preferences.

People were smiling and talking with the staff periodically throughout the visit. Staff offered comfort to people who needed reassurance.
