During an inspection in response to concerns

People living at the service told us that they were satisfied with the care they received. Visitors to the home told us they had concerns including staffing levels and standards of personal care. The concerns which were raised with us were about the first floor of the service where the majority of people requiring nursing care lived.

25 April 2012

During a routine inspection

41 people lived at Cherrycroft when we visited on 25th April 2012. We spoke with 16 people, 11 of whom received nursing care on the first floor of the home. We also spoke with four relatives of people who lived on the nursing floor. We spoke to staff on both floors of the home.

On the ground floor a person told us that they 'had no complaints' and were satisfied with the way they were cared for. Another person pointed out members of staff with whom they got on well and said were helpful.

A visitor to the first floor told us that they appreciated the gestures that staff had made to celebrate their relative's birthday. They said that staff kept them in touch with their relative's progress and welfare.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People who live at Cherrycroft told us that they were happy there and said that staff caring for them are kind. Our observations were that staff have a gentle approach. We spoke to visitors who told us that the staff are patient and warm. They told us that they are kept informed of any concerns that arise. One person who lives at Cherrycroft told us about his recent involvement in the dignity champions programme that has recently been set up at Cherrycroft.

We found that some improvements have been made since our previous visit but in some important areas we found insufficient progress. There have been a number of senior staff changes both within the home and at an organisational level. It is anticipated by the organisation that this will strengthen the management systems at Cherrycroft.
