Most people we spoke with were satisfied with the care and treatment that they received at Fourways. We heard comments such as 'The staff are excellent'; 'I would be happy to come back to Fourways if I needed to'; 'The staff are strict but very professional' and 'The staff are always helpful.'

During our inspection we saw staff speaking with people who used the service in a polite and friendly manner. People told us they were given enough information about their care and support and they were involved in the way that the service was delivered.

We checked the procedures in place to ensure that people who lived at Fourways were protected from abuse. The people who lived there told us that they felt safe and we saw that staff had received training to recognise different types of abuse. We found that the provider had taken the necessary steps to ensure that people were protected.

Staff told us they felt supported and that they were happy to raise issues with senior staff. We saw that there was regular training in place to ensure that staff members kept up to date.

We found that there was a quality monitoring programme in place and there were various systems in place to ensure that quality was monitored on a regular basis. There was evidence that action was taken to improve the quality of the service when this was required.

During a routine inspection

During our visit to the home we spoke with two people using the service and asked them to tell us how they felt they were being cared for. We were told, 'It is 100% better than where I have been; they are very good here and I am improving' and 'I am well looked after, my needs are met and overall very good indeed'. They were also complimentary about the staff. We were told, 'Lovely staff' and 'Very respectful'.

The planning and delivery of care ensured the individual needs of the people using the service were met. The care plans contained sufficient information to show how people were to be looked after and also showed that people gave consent to the care and treatment provided.

People were provided with sufficient food and drink to ensure their nutritional needs were met.

People lived and worked in safe, accessible surroundings and adaptations were in place to promote people's independence, rehabilitation and comfort.

People's needs were met by a sufficient number of suitably trained and qualified staff. This helped to ensure the safety and welfare of the people using the service.

The complaints procedure in place ensured people were given clear guidance on how to make a complaint.
