All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We visited Great Wyrley Community Support Unit on an unannounced inspection which meant that the provider did not know we were coming.

We found that there were nine people in residence at the time of the inspection. We spoke with four people who used the service, four relatives and three staff.

People who used the service told us how much they enjoyed staying at the unit. One person we spoke with said: 'This is a fantastic service here. The staff are very professional and caring'. A relative told us: 'It is quite a distance from where we live but we would not want our (relative) to be anywhere else. The care is first class. Our (relative) can do so much more since being in here'.

People were involved in and gave their consent to the care and treatment they received. We found that people's needs were assessed. This meant that staff made sure that they could meet people's needs before they moved to the Great Wyrley Community Support Unit.

We checked care plans and found that care needs and risk assessments were reviewed regularly. This meant that people received care and support that met their current needs.

People were protected from abuse and staff understood the signs of abuse and how to report any suspicions of abuse.

We found that the staff were trained and supervised to meet the needs of the people who used the service.

There were robust systems in place to monitor and assess the quality of the service provided.

During a routine inspection

We visited Great Wyrley Community Support Unit on an unannounced inspection which meant that the provider did not know we were coming.

People were able to express their views and these were taken into account in the way the service was provided. People who used the service told us how much they enjoyed staying at the unit. Comments made included, 'I have stayed at the unit on numerous occasions. I have always enjoyed my time there and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful' and, 'Felt listened to - very caring staff'.

People had an assessment of their needs which included all aspects of daily living. We were able to see that people received care and support that met their individual needs.

We were told that the food in the home was good, and people told us that they were asked each morning what they would like to eat.

We checked to ensure medication was stored and administered in a safe way and found suitable systems and procedures were in place.

People confirmed that they knew how to make a complaint and were supported by the Head of Home and staff to make a complaint if necessary.
