During a routine inspection

The provider had effective systems in place to record and address any complaints that were made.

When we visited Tall Trees the registered manager was at a meeting. We saw contact details in the entrance hall for the senior staff on duty. The deputy manager and nursing staff made themselves available to us during our visit.

We spoke with five people living in the home, one told us “I have been in two other homes and this is by far the best”, another told us “I like it here I am treated very well.” One person said “the staff are very kind and caring.” Another person told us that they felt that their opinions were taken into account.

The service had enough staff on duty to meet the needs of the people. One person said “they ask me if everything is all right”.

We saw cleaning taking place in various parts of the service during our visit.

The service had quality assurance processes in place to assess the quality of the service they were providing. People were asked to comment and have an input into the running of the service.

We have judged the service to be non –compliant due to errors found in the recording of medication administration. Also where covert medication was being given, this was not clearly recorded who had been consulted and why this procedure was necessary.

People living in the home told us that they could get up and go to bed when they chose and there was always help available if they needed it. They told us that they were involved in decisions about their care and could tell the staff if there was a problem.

We spoke with three people who told us that they enjoyed living at Tall Trees. One said that they had visited other homes before deciding to choose Tall Trees and told us“I can see where I used to live from my window.” hey told us that they were involved in their care. People we spoke with were confident that they could tell staff when something was wrong and that they would put it right. One person told us that it was very busy at shower times.

People had mixed feelings about the food served. Some people were happy with the food others said they felt the quality and choice had deteriorated deterioration. At the time of the inspection the service was between permanent chefs a new chef was due to start in January. The organisations head chef was in charge during the interim period and Christmas and the New Year would be managed by him.
