During a routine inspection

We spoke to the relative of the person living at the home, they told us that they visited on a regular basis and had no concerns about the care and support given to their daughter. They told us "X and X (the providers) are wonderful, they do a marvellous job and my daughter is well looked after".

The person's ability to consent to their care or treatment had been assessed and recorded, where this person required support for more complex decisions advice would be sought.

The person living at the home remained safe and well as the provider worked closely with health and social care professionals. How the person required assistance and how they communicated was recorded. This provided clear information on how to support this person who were unable to verbalise how they wanted their care to be provided.

The person living at the home was protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were being maintained.

During a routine inspection

One person lived at the home. Due to their communication difficulties they were not able to tell us about life in the home. We therefore spoke with the people who supported them and looked at their care records. We spoke with one of their parents following the inspection visit.

This person's service was centred on them. They were the only person who lived at the home and were supported by the providers who knew them well. This long standing relationship had led to an excellent understanding of this person's abilities, needs, likes and dislikes. They lived as part of the provider's family.

The relative we spoke with said 'It was great luck that we were fortunate to have our daughter looked after' by the providers. 'They provide exactly the right environment for her. They are very good at getting her to do more things or try new things. We have noticed how well looked after our daughter is. She always shows positive signs that she is very happy and is quite at home. Her GP is very good. All the indications are that she gets very good care and good health care.'

They told us the home was a safe place for their family member to live. They said the providers 'are very loving towards her.'

They confirmed they were in regular contact with the providers and were able to discuss any concerns if they were to have any. They told us 'We have never had to raise any issues about her care and she has lived here over 20 years.'
