All Inspections

5 November 2013

During a routine inspection

The people who used the service were provided with support to meet their individual care needs. We asked staff at Equinox for contact details of a sample of people who used the service and we spoke with two people on the telephone. We also spoke with two care workers and the registered manager.

People told us and we found their care needs were met. One person said they “were very happy with the service.” Another person said they received “help with everyday things.”

The evidence we reviewed demonstrated to us that people were treated with respect and that their views and preferences were considered by staff in the delivery of their care. People received the care and support that met their needs. Staff had undergone safeguarding training, which enabled them to identify and respond to any potential safeguarding concerns effectively. We found that staff were supported by their manager and had access to training and development opportunities but did not receive an opportunity to have their performance appraised annually. We found that the assessment and monitoring of the service was insufficient. We found that there was adequate information about making a complaint.

13 December 2012 and 21 February 2013

During a routine inspection

The inspection began with an unannounced visit on 13 December 2012, unavoidable circumstances delayed the completion of the inspection and a visit was made at short notice on 21 February 2013.

People we had contact with told us Equinox Personal Care Service supported people with a complex range of needs. They said the staff were reliable and respectful towards them. A professional told us that staff engaged well with their client and a representative of a person who used the service said that "without the support I don't know where we'd be".

A person who used the service commented that they got on well with the small team of staff that supported them and felt they were concerned for their welfare. They said they were asked for their views about the service and felt able to influence the way their care was provided. The provider encouraged the involvement of people who use services in the running of the organisation and valued their input.

Staff told us that the provider supported them in their role through relevant training, support and advice.
