Warmere Court is one of a group of homes owned by a national provider, Shaw Healthcare Limited. It is a residential care home providing nursing and/or personal care for up to 40 people with a variety of care needs, such as frailty of old age and dementia. At the time of the inspection, 34 people were living at the home. At the last inspection undertaken on 16 July 2019, we found the provider in breach of Regulation 12 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, Safe care and treatment. At this assessment, significant improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of Regulation 12. Please see overall summary for Safe. At the last inspection, we found the provider in breach of Regulation 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2004 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, Good governance. At this assessment, improvements had been made and the breach of Regulation 17 had been met. Please see overall summary for Well Led. A learning culture was embedded into the culture of the home. Any safety concerns identified or concerns raised by people were investigated and reported thoroughly. Examples were used as reflective practice for staff at staff meetings. People received safe care and support from staff who knew their identified and assessed risks. The service had robust safeguarding systems in place which ensured people were protected from the risk of abuse or harm. People were involved in all aspects of their care and understood any potential risks that might impact on their safety. Staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. Audits were maintained to monitor the safety of the environment. Staffing levels were sufficient to meet people’s assessed needs, and staff were recruited safely. The home was very clean and there were no unpleasant smells or malodours. Medicines were ordered, stored, administered and disposed of safely.

People's experience of the service

People were encouraged to raise complaints and were listened to by staff so their concerns were acted upon. One person said, “I raise things all the time, as it’s the only way to get things done.” People were involved in planning their care, and one explained that staff talked to them about how they could do things differently and how they would like to be supported. People were protected from the risk of abuse or harm. One person told us they would call for staff or the registered manager if they were unhappy about anything. People were supported by staff to understand any identified risks, and staff delivered care in line with their care plans. The home provided a safe and homely environment for people, including sensory experiences. Equipment needed for people, such as hoists, mobility aids and pressure relieving mattresses, was serviced regularly and well-maintained. People felt there were enough staff on duty to meet their needs and told us their call bells were answered promptly. One person told us they used their call bell and would also shout out for staff as this gained their attention. People’s rooms were kept very clean and tidy and people commented positively about the standards of housekeeping. People received their medicines as prescribed from trained staff. Their consent was gained before any medicine was administered.
