During an inspection looking at part of the service

The provider had sent us an action plan telling us what they were going to do to make sure

they were compliant with the one standard we had set compliance actions against when

we recently inspected the service.

The action plan told us they had planned to introduce a system whereby we will have dedicated medicine administration record (MAR) chart champions within each geographical area the branch delivers care in. The role of the champions being to audit and follow up any issues related to the management of medicines within their service.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with 20 people who used the service and with four relatives. Everyone gave us positive feedback. A person said, 'The staff couldn't be kinder, I don't have any complaints.'

We saw that people or their representatives had been given accurate information about the fees they would have to pay. Records showed that people had been correctly charged for the care they had received.

People said that they had received all of the care they needed. Records confirmed that assistance had been provided in a safe, reliable and responsive way.

Some staff had not managed people's medication in the correct way and the provider had not taken prompt action to address this matter.

The provider employed enough staff to give it the capacity it needed to consistently meet people's needs for care.

We saw that a range of quality checks had been completed to help ensure that people reliably received the help at home they needed.

6, 7 November 2012

During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us they were involved in decision making about the care and support they received. They said that staff listened to their views and preferences and respected them.

People we spoke with told us they felt safe with the support they received from staff. They also told us they liked the staff who worked with them.

People said things like, 'It's a very, very good service', 'All the staff help me in the same way' and 'They're (staff) definitely professionals and keep confidentiality.'

Systems were in place to ensure people were protected by staff recruitment and training processes, and service quality monitoring programmes.
