All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We visited De Lacy House to carry out an inspection of various areas of the service. During our inspection we spoke with people who used the service. They were very positive about their time at the service. One person told us 'It couldn't be better'.

We looked at the ways in which the service gained consent to care and treatment and found there to be some procedures in place. People were provided with support that was individualised to their needs and this was reviewed regularly. We observed interactions between people who used the service and staff and this was relaxed and friendly. We found that the pre-admission assessment and care planning documentation was not always being used properly.

We looked at the systems used for the storing and administration of medicines and found them to be appropriate and well monitored. We also looked at the way staff were supported and given professional development opportunities and found this to be good.

The systems in place which monitored the quality of the service were comprehensive and utilised appropriately. The service carried out monitoring and auditing of all aspects of the support provided.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

As part of our inspection we talked with a number of people who use the service. They spoke positively about the staff and care provided and told us that staff treated them with respect. Everyone we spoke with felt they were involved in their care and in making decisions about their treatment.

We received comments such as 'I seriously can't fault them', 'If I suggest anything I am taken seriously', 'It's like a family here', 'I feel safe' and 'They help me in any way that they can'.

Everyone we spoke with told us that they had no complaints but if they had any they would feel confident to raise these with the staff.

During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we talked with a number of people who use the service. They spoke positively about the staff and care provided and told us that staff treated them with respect. Everyone we spoke with felt they were involved in their care and in making decisions about their treatment.

We received comments such as 'The girls are brilliant', 'The staff are lovely and help us when we need it' and 'You can have a good laugh here'. Four people we talked with individually spoke very highly of a particular member of staff. This was fed back to the manager of the home at the time of the visit.

Everyone we spoke with told us that the food was good and a varied menu was available although one person did say 'It would be nice to have a joint of beef sometimes'.
