During a routine inspection

Records we looked at confirmed that an assessment of people’s care needs were considered and consultation took place to ensure people who used the service were in agreement regarding their needs.

People's comments included: “Staff are very hospitable and look after all my needs”, “Staff always know when I am feeling down and they support me when this happens” and “I feel respected and we all respect each other.”

During our visit we observed a dietician attending the service to meet with a person who used the service. We saw that the person attended their review session with a staff member in attendance and was supported during the whole session in a private area of the dining room.

People we spoke with told us, “I feel safe here and the staff are very good at pre-empting any issues before they happen” and “This is the best place I have ever been in my life.”

A person who used the service told us, “Staff are always around to help me with things like preparing meals for me and make sure I am dressed properly before I go out. They are around for me all the time.”

People who used the service told us that they knew how to make a complaint and felt satisfied that any issues would be handled and dealt with effectively by management.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one person who used the service but due to their complex mental health needs they were not able to discuss the service they received in detail.

People were asked for their consent to care and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. The person we spoke with could not remember if they had signed their care plan but they told us the staff consulted with them before assisting with care.

We found people’s needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care. The person who used the service told us they were satisfied with the care provided and they told us their needs were met.

We found appropriate arrangements were in place in relation to obtaining and disposal of medicines, and also the administration and recording of medicine.

We found staff received appropriate training for their role. People told us they liked the staff. They told us "The staff are OK."
