During a routine inspection

Records we looked at confirmed that an assessment of people’s care needs were considered and consultation took place to ensure people who used the service were in agreement regarding their needs.

People's comments included: “Staff are very hospitable and look after all my needs”, “Staff always know when I am feeling down and they support me when this happens” and “I feel respected and we all respect each other.”

During our visit we observed a dietician attending the service to meet with a person who used the service. We saw that the person attended their review session with a staff member in attendance and was supported during the whole session in a private area of the dining room.

People we spoke with told us, “I feel safe here and the staff are very good at pre-empting any issues before they happen” and “This is the best place I have ever been in my life.”

A person who used the service told us, “Staff are always around to help me with things like preparing meals for me and make sure I am dressed properly before I go out. They are around for me all the time.”

People who used the service told us that they knew how to make a complaint and felt satisfied that any issues would be handled and dealt with effectively by management.

During a routine inspection

People were asked for their consent to care and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. One person told us "I had it (the care plan) all explained and we discussed it." Some people we spoke with could not remember if they had signed their care plan but they told us the staff consulted with them before assisting with their support.

We found people’s needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care. People who used the service told us they were satisfied with the care provided and that their needs were met. Comments included "I am well looked after, its lovely here. If you are ill they are ever so good, when you need a doctor they take you."

We found appropriate arrangements were in place in relation to obtaining and disposal of medicines, and also the administration and recording of medicine. People we spoke with told us that they received their medicines when they needed them.

We found staff received appropriate training for their role. People told us they liked the staff. They told us "The staff are nice to us and helpful."

The views of people who used the service were sought through meetings and questionnaires. One person told us "We have meetings monthly and we make decisions about days out and holidays." They also said "I have had my bedroom decorated and I chose the colour."

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People we spoke with were very positive about the care and support they received. They told us they liked living at the home. Comments included "I am well looked after" and "I am happy here, it's the best one I have been to.' They told us they were consulted about how the service is run. Comments included 'We have meetings' and 'They ask us about the meals we want.'

During a routine inspection

People who live in the home have complex needs and some had difficulty expressing their views and others decided they did not wish to speak to us.

People we spoke with were positive about the care and support they received. They told us they liked living at the home and confirmed they were supported to make choices and decisions about the care they received. They told us they were assisted to be as independent as possible. Comments included 'I like living here', 'My room is decorated as I like it' 'We have choices about what to eat' 'I feel happy' and 'My needs are met'.

People said they enjoyed the activities. Comments included 'I like the bingo' and 'There are enough activities'.

They told us they felt safe. Comments included 'I feel safe here, the manager checks with me regularly' and 'Yes, I feel safe enough'.

They told us they liked the staff who worked in the home. Comments included 'They are nice and there are enough of them' and 'They are nice, they help me'.
