All Inspections

21 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who used the service. They told us that they and their relatives had been involved in making decisions about their care.

People's needs were assessed. The files contained details of the care provided and this was consistent with the plans. People told us that carers took good care of them. One said, 'I am satisfied with everything. They are all really good'. Another told us, 'We couldn't ask for better carers.'

People were protected from the risk of abuse. The provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent it from happening. There were guidelines for staff outlining the expected standards for staff in addition to policies and procedures about safeguarding people.

Staff were trained in the required areas but many had not received updated training. This had been arranged. People we spoke with told us they felt that the carers were competent. One said, 'They know what needs doing and they know how to do it'.

We saw systems for monitoring and assessing the quality of care. In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Her name appears because she was still a Registered Manager on our register at the time. The person managing the service had used the systems to identify areas for improvement and was acting on them. This service plans to merge with another in the near future.
