During a routine inspection

Our visit on the 12th July 2012 was made during the day. We returned during the evening on the 16th July. We spoke with the home's manager and five members of staff.

We observed the care being provided and spoke with nine people who use the service and two relatives who were visiting. One person told us that they liked the home. One said it was 'nice.' Another said the members of staff were 'very good.' We were also told that the food was 'good.'

During these inspections we did however have a number of concerns about the care that was being provided to the people living in the home and whether this met their individual needs. For example the wheelchairs shared by the people could have caused them injury as footrests were not always in place. People were not always being supported to have their individual personal care needs met in terms of access to regular bathing. The standard of cleanliness of the home seemed to be satisfactory in the morning, but was not maintained throughout the day. The manager and staff had not been supervised and supported sufficiently to deliver care safely and to an appropriate standard.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us that they liked where they lived and were happy overall with staff who they felt supported them well. They said that staff were friendly and listened to them and that they were treated with respect. One such comment includes, 'Staff and the care is good. They know if I'm OK or not OK. If I'm not OK they help me'. People told us they had a choice of meals and they liked the food. They said their health needs were met by seeing the medical professionals as they needed. People told us they engaged in a number of social activities in the home which they enjoyed.
