During a routine inspection

We saw that personalised support plans and risk assessments were in place to help inform the staff about people's needs. People we spoke with said they were satisfied with the care they received. A person said 'The staff monitor my health constantly. The district nurse is coming into see me and the physiotherapist. I am encouraged to do what I can, so that my health improves even more.' Care records were updated as people's needs changed which ensured that people's needs were known and could be met.

People's nutritional needs were assessed on admission and continued to be monitored to maintain people's health and wellbeing. Food served looked appetising. Snacks and drinks were made available to people at any time. People we spoke with said 'The food is very good. Menus are made up of appetizing choices. I would be able to get a drink and a snack during the night.' And 'The food is lovely.' People's dietary needs were met.

Medication systems in operation were robust. People were assessed to see if they could look after and give themselves their own prescribed medication. If they were safe to do so, this was permitted which promote their independence.

Effective recruitment procedures were in place. However, staff were not currently being recruited to work at this home. There were enough skilled and experienced staff in place to meet people's needs, in a timely way. People we spoke with said "The staff are skilled and they are there then when needed."

We saw that people received care and support in a timely way. People had their care reviewed so that their needs could be met. One person we spoke with said "The staff are very good they help me and know my needs nothing is too much trouble."

We did not ask people if they felt they were protected from abuse. However people told us they felt comfortable to raise any issues. One person said "I feel very safe." Another person said 'I could raise any issue. I have none to raise I am very happy here.'

We found that staff were receiving appropriate professional development. A person said "The staff work very hard. There is training on offer.' Another person said 'Staff have the skills to be able to look after us well.'

We saw the provider had systems in place for monitoring the quality of the service which was being provided to people. People we spoke with said their views were asked for. One person said 'I used to go to meetings. I can choose what to get involved with. I can chat with the manager whenever I like.'
