During a routine inspection

We saw that care plans contained a 'personal profile' which included sections headed 'How I would like you to help me, What I want my service to help me do and When I want my support.' We saw that ,in all the care plans that we looked at, the person who used the service had signed the personal profile and given consent to the care and support planned

We spoke with two people and the relatives of two other people who used the service. A relative said, "I can trust them. I have confidence that they know what they are doing." Another said, "They deliver a very personalised service."

All the people that we spoke with told us that the care workers knew what they were doing. One relative said, "Their training is very good. They are trained to use the handling equipment very well and were trained before they came." One staff member said, "The training is second to none. The management ensure that our training is always up to date."

We saw that the service had guidelines for the prevention of cross infection. We saw the training matrix which showed that all staff had received infection control training within the last two years.

There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately. People were given support by the provider to make a comment or complaint where they needed assistance.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with confirmed they had been involved in the assessment process and their care needs had been discussed with them. They had also been involved in the decision on how they wanted their care provided. People said that the carers were professional in their manner and that they felt treated with respect. People using the service told us that they felt well treated. They told us that they were satisfied with the agency staff.

Comments we received included 'The carers are very good.' 'The staff are very helpful, they will do extras, like washing my hair, if we ask and they are reliable.' 'The carers make sure they write up the care records every day so that the other carers know what has been done for me.' 'I am very pleased with the staff from North London Homecare & Support.' 'The care plan was discussed with us at the start of the service when they went through how they could support us and they have re-assessed us since then' 'I have not needed to complain but I know how to and when we have contacted the agency office with any requests they have sorted things out quickly.' 'The staff are brilliant, we are very satisfied with the service.'
