During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with three people who used the service. We also spoke with the manager, the deputy manager, a senior support worker and three support workers. People told us that they were happy with the care and service received. One person who used the service said, 'Everyone is great.'

We were able to observe the experiences of people who used the service. We saw that staff treated people with dignity and respect. We saw that people had their needs assessed and that support guidelines were in place.

People were supported to eat and drink sufficient amounts to meet their needs. People told us that they were involved in meal planning and preparation. One person said, 'I made some fruit scones last week. They are best when they just come out of the oven and you put fresh butter on them.'

We found medicines were safely handled.

We saw that the service had appropriate equipment. We saw that regular checks and servicing of equipment was undertaken to ensure that it was safe.

We saw that there was sufficient staff with the right knowledge and experience to support people.

The service also provided personal care to one person in their own home. We did not inspect this regulated activity as part of this inspection.

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with four people who used the service. We also spoke with the manager, deputy manager, a senior support worker, an acting senior support worker and a support worker. People told us that they were treated well and staff were good and that they were involved in making choices about their care. People expressed satisfaction with the care and service that they received. One person said, 'Staff are very good and very kind.' Another person said, 'The manager and all the staff are lovely.'

We were able to observe the experiences of people who used the service. We saw that staff treated people with dignity and respect. Staff were attentive and interacted well with people. We saw that staff communicated well with people and explained everything in a way that could be easily understood. Staff encouraged and supported people to be independent.

We found the premises that people, staff and visitors used were safe and suitable.

We found that appropriate recruitment procedures were in place.

We found there was an effective complaints system in place at the home.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with three people who used the service. Everyone spoken with expressed satisfaction with the care and service that they received. One person said, "The manager is brilliant, she is just like one of the lads. The food is lovely and we choose what we want. The fajitas I had the other day were lovely." Another person said, "The manager is great and will do anything to help you. All the staff are great and go out of their way for you." People felt their privacy and dignity was being respected and said that staff were always very patient and encouraged them to do what they could for themselves. People told us about the range of activities they were supported to take part in and how staff were helping them develop their daily living skills.
