During a routine inspection

During the inspection we saw staff interacted with people who used the service in a positive manner. It was clear people had formed good relationships with staff from the way they interacted.

A relative of a person who used the service told us 'Three sisters is as good as it gets for a care home. Staff are very dedicated and compassionate.' Another relative told us 'It is pretty good, the new key worker is full of all sorts of good ideas.'

We found the provider had implemented new care records which were an improvement over the old records. People's needs were individually assessed and information was available in a clear and concise format. We found there were a range of activities for people to be involved in.

We found the provider had systems in place to safeguard people from abuse. Staff understood the importance of identifying and reporting abuse and were confident the manager acted on any concerns.

We found staff had received appropriate training to undertake their role and were well supported by the management structure.

The provider had systems in place to monitor the quality of its service through regular audits. Processes were in place to gain feedback from staff, people who used the service and their relatives.

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we saw staff interacting with the people who used the service in a positive manner. It was clear the people had formed good relationships with the staff from the way they interacted. The people we spoke with told us they thought the staff were good. We saw staff supporting people to bake in the kitchen, go out to the shops and saw them talking encouragingly with people to keep them engaged in the activities. People were supported by the staff to shop and cook for themselves as well as care for their flat. They were also supported to be involved in the local community.

We discussed with staff how information was shared between shifts and they told us they had good verbal handovers. They also explained they had a communications book used to ensure information was passed on. They told us they thought the people who used the service received excellent care and support.

We looked at two of the flats in Bronte View. One person living there told us they had been involved in the decoration of their room. They also told us, 'I love my room, there is lots of space'.

We judged there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

We judged accurate and appropriate records were maintained in all areas except individual care records but the provider was addressing this at the time of our inspection.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We talked to several people throughout the day and some people invited us to view their rooms. We looked at accommodation in one part of the house which consisted of a self contained living/dining area, kitchen and walk in shower. In another area of the house people share kitchen and dining areas and their personal accommodation consists of a large bedroom with en suite facilities. People said they liked their rooms. One person told us they were looking forward to the redecoration of the house that is due to start very soon.

Everyone we talked to said they were happy living there. Without exception, everyone told us they really liked the staff. We could see that people get on well together from the interactions we observed throughout the day. Staff were enthusiastic and keen to talk to us about their work. It was apparent that they know people very well; they told us how they support people and told us about people's hobbies and interests and we saw some good humoured exchanges taking place between people.

The farm manager and some of the people who work on the farm gave us a lively, whistle-stop tour of the surrounding land where they keep a variety of livestock. Everyone we talked to said they loved being involved with this work.
