During a routine inspection

During our visit, 10 people with an acquired brain injury were living in the home. We reviewed individual support plans for three people to see how they were being supported to give their consent to the care and treatment provided at the home.Where people did not have the capacity to consent to particular care and treatment, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements.

We saw evidence that individual support plans for three people living in the home had been developed following an assessment of their needs. The provider demonstrated how they worked with other services and individuals to meet the needs of people living in the home.

We looked at the number of staff on duty throughout the day and night. Sufficient numbers of staff with the right, qualifications, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience met the needs of people who used the service at all times.

The provider sought the views of people living in the home, their relatives and staff. Feedback was used to make improvements to the service. Relatives told us, 'If we've had an issue, they've [staff] been good at trying to resolve it.' The provider had systems and processes in place for identifying, assessing, monitoring and reviewing the quality of services offered to people living in the home.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time of this inspection. We have advised the provider of what they need to do to remove the individual's name from our register.

During a routine inspection

We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk to us. We observed care and support being provided to four people.

We also spoke with three people who were able to tell us their experience of living in the home, two relatives and a visiting health care professional.

People told us they were happy living in the home and felt safe and supported there. People told us that they took part in activities of their choice. One person told us 'I like going to the curry club and the shops'.

A relative described the home as 'homely and friendly'. The health care professional told us 'All very welcoming ' the staff are knowledgeable and know when to call the district nurses'
