All Inspections

21 June 2013

During a routine inspection

We observed that people were able to influence their support and lead an independent life at the service.

People received care and support which were person centred and designed with the help of individuals who needed support and their representatives. The support plans were produced following risk assessments to ensure staff were given instructions in how to minimise the risks.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed. There was a named care worker responsible for carrying out infection control audits. These had taken place regularly and corrective actions had been implemented when necessary.

People who lived at the service regularly came into contact with providers of other services to treat or support them. To make sure people were in receipt of appropriate care at the correct time by the right people the staff at the service co-ordinated the services for the individuals.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. We looked at four staff files and spoke with staff on duty. Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

People were given support by staff to make a comment or complaint where they needed assistance. People at the service preferred verbal explanation instead of other formats. Therefore staff said they supported people or enabled their representatives to raise their comments or complaints verbally.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Three people lived at the service. We did not ask them about the outcome area we checked. However, we saw people were relaxed and made positive comments about their experience at the service. One person said that the staff were alright and the other was friendly but did not make any comments. The third person was in their room during our inspection.

During a routine inspection

People who lived at the service were very positive about their experiences and made the following comments.

'This is the best place I have lived in. I like the staff attitude and how they treat me.'

'Oh I have been living here a long time and I would have moved out if I did not like living here. I like doing things with staff.'

'Care workers help me decide on what I could do each day because I like deciding on the day. I don't like planning ahead.'
