During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke to people about the home this included the manager and two members of staff. We also spoke to two relatives of the residents at Stanton Lodge by telephone. They told us that privacy and dignity of their relatives were important aspects of the support provided. They felt their relative's needs were being fully met by staff who were competent to do their jobs and who ensured they were protected from harm.

Their comments included:

'We find the home to be very welcoming, very clean, very well run'I couldn't praise the carers highly enough'.

'To be honest them girls have a heart of gold'they deserve a pay rise'they do a lot'they treat me great, welcome me and phone me up all the time if there's any concern'.

Both residents had complex learning disabilities. On the day of the inspection one resident was unable to contribute to our assessment and the other resident had very limited communication. At Stanton Lodge they were given information in different formats to help them understand and were supported by staff who knew them well. We observed interaction between the residents and staff on duty. Both residents were supported by staff that were well trained and experienced.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people living at Stanton Lodge. This was because all of the people using the service had complex needs which meant some of them were not able to tell us their experiences. We observed during our inspection that the people living at Stanton Lodge appeared happy and content living there. We found people were treated respectfully and given support to have their say in how they wanted to be helped and were supported to do the things they wanted to do.

The people living at Stanton Lodge had limited verbal communication but could communicate in a number of other ways. They were given information in a format that they could understand and were supported by people who knew how to communicate with them when decisions needed to be made about their care and welfare. They were represented in their best interests when it was appropriate to do so.

The people who lived at Stanton Lodge were cared for by staff who were appropriated recruited, well trained and experienced at supporting them.

During a routine inspection

We met each of the people who were living at the home, but on this occasion we were not able to attain their views about the service. However, during our visit we spent time observing the support they received from staff and we have taken this information into account in writing this report.
