All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service at Blackburne Drive. We spoke with staff and with people who used the service. We also spoke over the telephone with family members of people who used the service.

One relative told us, 'I feel they are very safe here'. Another said, 'I think the place is excellent'.

We also used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. This was because all of the people who lived at the home had complex needs which meant they were unable to verbally communicate their experiences.

We observed during our inspection that the people who lived at Blackburne Drive appeared happy and content in their surroundings. We found people were treated respectfully and given the right support to make choices and to do the things they wanted to do.

People who used the service had limited verbal communication skills but could communicate in a number of other different ways. People were supported to make decisions about their care and welfare by staff, their families and others who knew them well,

The people who used the service were cared for by staff who were appropriately recruited, trained and experienced at supporting them.

During a routine inspection

Due to the different ways that the people living at Blackburne Drive communicate we were not able to directly ask them their views. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.
