During a routine inspection

Patients we spoke with agreed their consent had been gained and that they fully understood their treatment options and any possible risks. One patient said, 'the procedure was explained to me, I understood the risks and signed my form to say I wanted to go ahead.'

Patients had time to discuss options with professionals and fully understood what the procedure will entail and any risks associated with them. One patient said, 'I never felt rushed, the staff explained my options to me in a way I fully understood.'

We spoke with two patients both were happy with the cleanliness of the unit, one patient said, 'everything is clean, I've seen staff washing their hands and cleaning equipment."

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet patient's needs. The manager explained that staffing is risk assessed. The patients we spoke with all said enough staff were available to meet all their needs, one person said, 'I've had an amazing time today with staff who know what they are doing each step of the way.'

We saw that each patient who used the service is asked to complete a 'your opinion counts' questionnaire this asked for feedback from patients on their experience of the service.

6 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two patients who used the service on the day of our visit. They were both positive about the way they had been treated. For example, one patient described the service as 'fantastic' and 'absolutely brilliant'. Patients said that staff had treated them with respect and provided support and reassurance throughout the process. They described the service environment as 'spotless' and 'very clean'.

Staff received training and support to deliver care and treatment safely to patients. The provider regularly monitored the service to make sure that risks to patient safety were minimised and an appropriate standard of care and treatment provided.

During a themed inspection looking at Termination of Pregnancy Services

We did not speak to people who used this service as part of this review. We looked at a random sample of medical records. This was to check that current practice ensured that no treatment for the termination of pregnancy was commenced unless two certificated opinions from doctors had been obtained.
