During a routine inspection

We spoke to two people who used the service. They said they had been given enough information and time to make a decision about their treatment. They said they were happy with the standard of care and support they had received. Some comments made were:-

'The staff were nice. They were very helpful and explained everything clearly.'

'I was happy with the service. I was given enough information. The staff were kind and answered any questions I had'

We looked at the analysis of the results from one hundred and ninety two surveys completed by people who used the service between January and April 2013. These indicated that 91% of people were very satisfied with the standard of care provided. 90% were very satisfied with the advice received and 98% felt fully informed about all aspects of their treatment.

We found that people were provided with the information they needed to make an informed choice about treatment. The practices and procedures in place ensured that people experienced treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

There were systems in place to ensure that a good standard of infection control was maintained.

We found people's views were sought about what worked well and where improvements were needed.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to two people who used the service. They said that they had been given enough information on which to make a decision about their treatment. They described the staff as 'helpful' and 'sensitive.' They said the staff put them at ease and were non-judgemental in their approach. They said they were happy with the standard of care and support they had received.

We looked at the results from two hundred and thirty six surveys completed by people who used the service between January and April 2012. These indicated that the majority of people were very satisfied with the standard of nursing care provided, the choice of treatments available and the advice given by staff.

We found that people were provided with the information they needed to make an informed choice about treatment. The practices and procedures in place ensured that people had their welfare appropriately supported.

We found that staff had the training and support needed to ensure that the needs of the people who used the service were suitably met. There were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service and to ensure people received safe and effective care and support.

During a themed inspection looking at Termination of Pregnancy Services

We did not speak to people who used this service as part of this review. We looked at a random sample of medical records. This was to check that current practice ensured that no treatment for the termination of pregnancy was commenced unless two certificated opinions from doctors had been obtained.
