During a routine inspection

Before people received any care or treatment they were routinely asked for their consent. Members of staff told us that they always explained all procedures and treatments. The care and treatment plans we looked at contained evidence of people's views and experiences that were taken into account in the way the service was provided.

People's needs were assessed and care and support was planned and delivered in line with their individual care needs. The care plans contained a good level of information setting out exactly how each person should be supported to ensure that their needs were met. One person told us, 'I like it here.' Another person said, 'I like living here.'

People who used the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises. The design and layout of the premises was suitable for carrying out the regulated activity.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. Appropriate checks had been undertaken before staff began work. This included carrying out a Criminal Records Bureau check and obtaining references from previous employers.

There was an effective complaints system in place. Complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

Due to their complex needs some people were not able to tell us about their experiences. Those who were said they are happy with the care being provided. People said they can generally make decisions and choices about the care they receive. They said they can choose what time to get up and go to bed, what to eat and what activities to get involved in.
