During a routine inspection

We spoke with the three people using the service and observed people interacting with staff during our visit. People told us they enjoyed living at the home and that staff supported them, People told us, "I like it here", and , "Staff are good". Staff engaged with people in a friendly and respectful manner, offered choices and supported people to participate in activities.

We looked at three care plans during our visit. These were person centred and reviewed regularly. We saw evidence that other professionals had contributed to these.

We saw evidence that people were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink. One person told us, "I like the food".

Effective systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. We saw that the environment was clean and hygienic and that staff used appropriate infection control measures, including use of personal protective equipment such as aprons and gloves. Risk to service users was assessed and risk management procedures were in place.

Medicines were stored, managed, recorded and administered appropriately. Staff received training in medication procedures.

Staff received appropriate professional development. Staff told us that they received a range of mandatory training courses and we saw certificates for these. Regular supervisions, appraisals and team meetings took place.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people using the service. They told us they liked living in the home and care staff were kind and helpful. Their comments included "it's a good home' and 'I like my room.' People also told us they were involved in making decisions. One person said "I like the food.' Another person said "I go out with staff.'

We saw that staff supported people in a professional and friendly way. People using the service were offered choices about the activities they took part in and were consulted about their plans for the day. Information for people using the service was produced in formats that made it easier for them to understand.

We spoke with three people working at the home, including the manager. Staff told us how they respected people's privacy and dignity and gave them choices throughout the day. They also told us there were enough staff to support people using the service, they felt supported by management and were well trained. One staff member said "team work and communication are good.'

The staff we spoke with were aware of the risk of abuse and gave appropriate answers when we asked about how they would respond if they had concerns about a person using the service.

We saw that the provider had arrangements in place to make sure complaints were investigated and where possible resolved.
