All Inspections

25 October 2013

During a routine inspection

We observed that people who lived at Greenhill Lodge, looked happy and relaxed in their home surroundings. Staff told us that people were able to do what they wanted and some choose to stay in their rooms. Other people preferred to use the lounge or other communal areas. We observed that people were encouraged to be as independent as they could and staff supported them when requested. People who lived at Greenhill lodge were responsible for doing tasks around the home and there was a rota detailing people's responsibilities. People were assisted with keeping their individual rooms clean and tidy and we noted that staff had assisted people with "personalising" their rooms, and making them "homely". One person told us that they "loved their room" and said they enjoyed spending time there.

People were able to go out to local venues, were assisted to go shopping and attended educational centres and day care relevant to their individual assessed needs.

People told us they would sometimes frequent local amenities such as shops, bars and restaurants on special occasions.

A person said, 'We all have our own rooms, which we were able to furnish with the help of our key worker.' The person added, 'We live very close to shops, cafes and bars, and sometimes we go to the local places such as the market.'

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us during our visit on 21 September 2011, that they were comfortable living in Greenhill Lodge. Only complimentary remarks were received from the people who stated that they were pleased with the care and service provided. They were all complimentary about the staff who assist them. A person commented 'Nice staff, very considerate.' Another said, 'If you need help, they are always there. I can't complain.'

A person we spoke with confirmed that they 'have choices.' Another person said, 'I love to watch TV, and I can watch my TV programmes. We have choices with the menu and there is plenty of food to eat.' This was echoed by another person who said, "We have weekly residents' meetings and we are given choices. '

People we spoke with confirmed that they 'have to phone' and 'tell the staff' if they are going to be back late at night. A person we spoke with said 'I have my own key and I go out whenever I like.'

People we spoke with confirmed that their bedrooms are cleaned 'everyday' with help from the staff and that staff respect people's wishes and preferences. A person said 'Staff help me cook my favourite dish, lasagne. I can't complain.' Another person commented that the staff "are supportive and very nice" and added "I have no complaints." On the day of the visit, a person said that they had just returned from a hospital appointment, accompanied by a member of staff.
