25 September 2013

During a routine inspection

During our visit on the 25 September 2013, we saw that people were treated with respect and they were offered opportunities to take part in daily routines and activities.

People told us that they were happy with the care and support they received. They said that the staff and management really listened to them and supported them as best they could. One person said, "Everyone's so nice here. The microwave packed up; instead of waiting about the manager went straight out and got another one. That was good because we all use it a lot."

At our previous inspection of this service on 17 December 2012 we found that the kitchen was in a poor state of repair, the communal hallway was shabby and appeared unclean and bathrooms were uninviting and a potential infection control hazard. At this visit we saw that some refurbishment had taken place and the communal areas of the home appeared clean and fresh.

Personnel records we viewed showed that there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place.

A complaints procedure was in place, which explained to people how they could complain should they have the need to. People said they would have no issue about going straight to the manager or to any member of staff if they felt anything was wrong. However, they all said they had never had to. Comments included, 'There is nothing to complain about, they are fantastic here.'

17 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We observed the interactions between people using the service and the support staff working at the home and listened to everyday events and activities during the course of the day. People using the service initiated conversations, approached support staff with confidence and were responded to in a warm and respectful way.

People told us they were happy, they said they felt it was their home and they felt like a big family.

Subsequent to the inspection site visit we spoke with three health professionals involved with the care and support of the people living in Limber Care Home. They all made positive comments about the service provision and told us they were confident that the staff team supported people's personal and mental health needs. One person said, 'We are happy with the care provided by the support staff, the residents are happy there. We have been involved with this service for many years, it's very good.'

At our previous visit to Limber Care Home in October 2011 we found there were some bedrooms and communal areas of the house that would benefit from redecoration. At this visit we found that there had been little re-investment in the property in the past year resulting in the general deterioration of the environment people lived in.

21 October 2011

During a routine inspection

During our visit to Limber Residential Home on 28 October 2011 people we spoke with told us that they enjoyed going to the gym and to go shopping for food and for clothes. One person told us that they liked living at the home. They enjoyed going out walking and to the shops. They said 'I do my own laundry and I do my own cooking, but I have a take away on Fridays.' They also told us 'I like the staff here.' Another person told us they also liked living at Limber and said 'They take us out on shopping trips to lakeside.'

People told us they had their own key to the home and a key to their own individual rooms. People told us that they had regular meetings with the staff about their menu choices and other activities in the home and they felt involved and able to make decisions about their life at the home.
